Description

A splendid Antique Victorian Sterling silver and glass claret jug which has a tall glass body with star cut detailing and resting on a flat base with star cut decoration. The elaborate silver mount is designed with fruit, leaves and Bacchus head motifs. The hinged lid has the same fruit and leaf detailing with an impressive thumb piece depicting a lion in a standing position holding a shield. It has a good pouring spout and a substantial plain handle with a bead patterned band around the body for extra support. This claret jug is both practical and pleasing to the eye and would make a perfect addition to a collection. It will hold 950 ml of wine and remains in excellent condition. There is a crest on the shield.
